Minister of Christian Formation

Grace Episcopal Church is seeking a part-time (15-20 hours a week) Minister of Christian Formation for Children and Youth to start in August, 2023. We seek someone who loves working and sharing their faith with children, youth, and families. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, open to new ways of doing and being church and an excellent communicator.

Grace Church is collaborative, progressive and relational. We believe that guiding and supporting our children and youth as they develop into caring and faithful adults is one of the most important things we do in our lives together in Christ. We value formation models that are engaging, justice-focused and allow children and youth to participate fully in the life of the parish.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and implement faith formation programs and activities for children and youth, including Sunday morning Church School (currently Pre-K to grade 8) and bi-weekly Sunday evening Youth Group (currently grades 6-12)

  • Create and maintain a calendar of programming, events, and adult volunteer support

  • Working with the priest, support youth seeking Confirmation

  • Recruit, train and support adult volunteers to work with children and youth

  • Build relationships with and hold occasional gatherings for the caregivers of children and youth

  • Create connections between the work of children and youth ministries to the Mission, Vision and Values of Grace Church, important church events and social justice outreach efforts

  • Attend weekly staff meetings

  • Invite and welcome new youth, children and families to Grace Church

  • Provide programming for young people at the annual Grace Church Parish Retreat

  • Implement Safe Church policies and collect CORI information for the Grace office

Desired qualities:

  • Experience working with children and youth

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to initiate and lead curriculum choices, programming, special events, outreach activities in the community

  • Ability to team with other leaders and groups in the parish

  • Experience with the Episcopal Church and/or a church community

  • Experience with Godly Play or similar curriculum preferred

Time and Compensation

Year-Round, about 15-20 hours a week with significant time off over the summer. Sundays 9am to noon are mandatory and the rest of the week is flexible. Compensation includes competitive salary (based on effort level) and retirement plan contributions.
