Minister of Christian Formation

Grace Episcopal Church is seeking a part-time (12-15 hours a week) Minister of Christian Formation for Children and Youth to start in August 2026. We seek someone who loves working and sharing their faith with children, youth, and families. The ideal candidate is organized, a skilled communicator across multiple formats, flexible in meeting families where they are, and leads with a positive spirit.

We value formation models that are engaging, child-centered, and that allow children and youth to participate fully in the life of the parish.
Responsibilities:
Oversee and implement faith formation programs and activities for children, including Sunday morning Church School (currently Pre-K to grade 8).
Be present during formation and worship on Sunday mornings. Regularly teach one of the church school classes.
Create and maintain a calendar of programming, events, and adult volunteer support.
Working with the clergy, support youth seeking Confirmation.
Recruit, train and support adult volunteers to work with children and youth.
Build relationships with and, collaborating with clergy, hold occasional gatherings for the parents and caregivers of children and youth.
Create connections between children and youth ministries to important church events and social outreach activities. This may include collaborating with Director of Music to offer opportunities for children’s music during worship.
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Invite and welcome new youth, children and families to Grace Church.
Provide programming for young people at the annual Grace Church Parish Retreat. (Note: due to construction at the Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Center in 2026-27, the retreat will be a one-day event in Newton.)
In partnership with parent volunteers, organize and lead annual Christmas pageant.
Ensure compliance with Grace’s Policies for the Protection of Children and Youth, collect information for public record checks, and maintain required records.

Experience working with children and youth.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to initiate and lead curriculum choices, programming, special events, outreach activities in the community.
Ability to partner with other leaders and groups in the parish and, potentially, in neighboring parishes.
Experience within a church community.
Nice to have:
Experience with the Episcopal Church.
Musical skills, ability to lead children in singing.
Experience with Godly Play or similar curriculum.
Time and Compensation
An average of 12 hours per week; up to 15 hours per week during the church year with significant time off over the summer. Sundays 9am to noon are mandatory, and the rest of the week is flexible. Three weeks of paid vacation per calendar year; one week of continuing education time; federal holidays are observed (pro-rated to correspond to 30% role). Compensation includes competitive salary and retirement plan contributions.
